CLEMSON MBA STUDENT ASSOCIATION

We are a student led organization at Clemson University that seeks to connect students, alumni and the Greenville community through locally aimed philanthropy and professional development events.

The Clemson MBA Student Association is honored to host the second annual fundraiser for the Greenville Health System's ALS Clinic! One Main Roar will raise funds to support patients and families of the upstate living with ALS. This years event will feature live music, food, special guests and silent auction!

ALS CLINIC AT GHS

ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It leads to the
atrophying of muscles in the body and an inability for the mind to initiate and control movement.
Patients diagnosed with ALS typically lose the ability to move, speak, eat, and sometimes even breathe
on their own.

ALS has no known causation and, for the moment, no cure. Treatment is expensive and many patient
needs fall between the cracks of what a hospital setting is meant to accommodate and what insurance is
able to cover.

The Greenville Health System’s ALS clinic is the only ALS clinic in the upstate of South Carolina. It
currently sees to the needs of 75 patients and assists their families with extended care strategies.

Last year, One Main Roar was able to contribute proceeds that provided at home wheel chair access,
breathing machines, and therapy for patients. A total of $7,500 was donated to the clinic.

This year, we are hoping to make an even bigger financial impact on the needs of these members of our Greenville community.

Suzanne D Hobbs, Nurse Practictioner

I got an email yesterday from a precious lady that simply said..."what is this I hear about a gene being found that is responsible for ALS?"

Later on in the day I was tagged by some of my facebook  friends talking about some new things going on in the world of ALS.  I received two phone calls in the afternoon, one to let me know one of my sweet friends had passed away with ALS, while the other phone call was from a gentleman thanking me for helping his wife with some transportation equipment as she has ALS.

Today I received a phone call from a nice lady who was crying and saying her brother had just been diagnosed with ALS and she just has no idea what to do.  I called a gentleman and got to celebrate with him that his powerchair is “just perfect” and he could now go outside.  He was trapped inside his own because he has ALS.  I called the wife of a man living with ALS and cried with her as she feels that she is losing bits and pieces of her husband on a daily basis.

Have you ever just been mad?
